GHSA 7AA Region State Action

With the conclusion of this basktball season, the Hurricane coaching staff and athletes can look forward to less travel next year. The athletic program will make the move from 7AA to 7A beginning in August thereby deleting three competitors from the Augusta area including the six-hour roundtrip journey.

In other 7AA Region news, two weeks into the state tournament only two of eight competitors remain. The ladies of Laney, who captured the region title, defeated Buford 61-43 last Saturday in the first round and advanced to face Dade County tomorrow, Feb. 24 at Mt. Zion High School beginning at 7 p.m.

On the boys side Putnam County, who ended up #1 in the region after knocking off an undefeated Greene County squad in overtime during the championship game, is still alive after defeating Lumpkin County 62-50 last Friday. The War Eagles will also play tomorrow at Mt. Zion beginning at 8:30 p.m. against Decatur.
