Piedmont Tennis Teams Enjoy Success
The 2006 Piedmont Academy varsity tennis teams have been able to enjoy some success on the court this spring.
Led by first-year coach Misty Smith, the teams have played several matches including ones against Gatewood, Brentwood, Nathanael Greene and Monroe Academy. During the upcoming region tournament, Piedmont will also face Edmund Burke and Briarwood.
Smith said the No. 1 doubles team for the Lady Cougars—Sarah Wagnon and Jennifer Mobley—has played well. Both Wagnon and Mobley are sophomores.
In singles play, sophomore Carrie Tucker will enter region as the No. 1 player while Martha Powell will be at No. 2 singles and Kelly King at No. 3.
Other players competing for the varsity Lady Cougars include Nicole Wilson, Haley McMichael, Beth Hamilton and Ashlan Troutman.
For the boys, No. 1 singles player Blake McMichael has played well as has No. 2 singles Ryan Young. Both players are juniors.
Chris Brunton, Charley Need-ham, Isaac Abbott, D.J. Allen, Tyler Landress and Matthew Powell also compete for the varsity boys.
