Piedmont Excels at Track
Lance Richardson turned in the top performance for the Piedmont Academy track teams at the recent Class AA state meet.
Richardson was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles to pace the Piedmont boys. Tyler Landress also earned a seventh-place finish in the 3,200-meter run.
For the Lady Cougars, Priscilla Jones was seventh in the 3,200-meter run in Albany.
Prior to the state meet, which was held April 28-29, the Piedmont Academy track teams competed at the region meet in Eatonton.
The boys were third overall at region led by a second-place finish by Landress in the 3,200-meter run and a runner-up finish by Josh Phillips in the 300-meter hurdles.
Richardson was third in the 100-meter hurdles while Tony Deleza was fourth in the 400-meter dash.
In team events, Piedmont’s 400-meter relay team of Justin Atkins, Richardson, Joey Schroeder and J.J. Tweedell was second as was the 1,600-meter relay team of Deleza, Richardson, Taylor Jackson and Tweedell.
Jones paced the Lady Cougars with a runner-up showing in the 3,200-meter run and a third-place finish in the 1,600-meter run.
Bailey Myers was fourth in the 200-meter dash at region.
The Piedmont Academy teams were coached this spring by Kenny Roberts.
