Minnie Lee Jones Payne

Minnie Lee Jones Payne, 79, formerly of Monticello, died Friday, June 30, at her residence in Macon.

Minnie Payne was born in Tennille to the late Wyatt Allen Jones and Helen Smith Jones. She lived in Jasper County for more than 23 years before moving to Bibb County two years ago.

Before retirement, she was a laundress for James King Cleaners in Decatur.

Her husband was the late Leeroy Payne. Her son, Frank Scott; granddaughter, Toni Baker; and six brothers and sisters, most recently, Ruby Jones Shelton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Gibson of Macon; son, James Baker of Statesboro; grandchildren, Joan Furlow, Danny Scott, Kathy Autrey, Tammy Bragg, Tanya Baker, Suzanna Locklear, Christina Deveney and Hidi Gibson; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro Street, Monticello.

A memorial service was held Monday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Thompson officiated.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
