Eddie ‘Sugar’ Johnson

Funeral services for Eddie “Sugar” Lene Johnson, 90, were held August 26 at St. John C.M.E. Church with burial in Sardis Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Johnson officiated.

She died August 23 at the Retreat Nursing Home.
Mrs. Johnson was born July 16, 1916 to the late Harriett and John Solomon of Monticello as the youngest of 10 children. She lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. for more than 25 years. After retirement she moved to Greenville before moving back to Monticello.

She joined St. John C.M.E. Church at an early age and attended Metropolitan C.M.E. Church in Brooklyn when she lived in New York. Upon her return she became active at St. John C.M.E Church serving as a stewardess and missionary.

Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, and gardening.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include a special nephew, Ulysses Carter of Monticello, and a number of relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
