Lady ‘Canes Win 2, Lose 2
The Lady Canes Softball team traveled to Glascock County last Thursday, and played an outstanding game, defeating Glascock 6-1.
Shelby Britt pitched all seven innings for the ‘Canes for a complete game, giving up only 2 hits with 10 strikeouts.
Leading hitters for the ‘Canes were Candice Allen, 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs; Shelby Britt 2 for 4; Tymeria Whitening 1 for 3 (a triple) with 1 RBI; Amanda Peterson, 1 for 4 with a stolen base; and Erika Bilbery, 1 for 4 (a double) with 1 RBI.
Also, Megan Kildhal had a good game behind the plate, throwing out two runners at second base.
On Saturday, the Canes traveled to Johnson County for two non-region games.
The Canes lost to Johnson County 11-0 in the first game. The Canes played East Laurens in the second game, losing a heart breaker 8-7 in extra innings.
The Canes traveled to Sparta on Tuesday for a region game. The Lady Canes defeated Hancock County 12-1, called after six innings on the run rule.
Autumn Peterson pitched a complete game for the Canes giving up only four hits and striking out eight batters. The Canes had 13 hits in the game.
Candice Allen, Autumn Peterson, Tymeria Whitening, and Megan Kildahl all had two hits each to lead the ‘Canes in hitting.
The Lady Canes now have 3 wins with 6 losses overall and in region play have 2 wins with 1 loss.
The Canes will play Wilkinson County at home on Thursday, Sept. 21, and play again at home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 against Twiggs County.
Both are region games and start time is 5 p.m..
