Lady ‘Canes Head To State Playoffs

The Lady ‘Canes Varsity Softball team hosted region opponent Hancock County last Thursday in the final game of the regular season.

Monticello put together eight hits to defeat Hancock, 4-0. Amanda Peterson and Ty Whitening led the team with two hits each. The Lady Canes scored 3 runs in the second inning and added 1 run in the fifth to secure the win.

Shelby Britt and Autumn Peterson shared the pitching duties for a one hit shutout. The win gave the Lady Canes a 6 win, 2 loss season in region play, a second place standing in the 7-A subregion, and a guaranteed trip to the state playoffs.

The Lady Canes were to play Glascock County yesterday, Oct 11, to determine their seeding going in to the playoffs.

This is the second year in a row that Coach Brin Davis has taken her team to the state playoffs. Assisting Coach Davis this year is Coach Jay Poole.

Members of the Lady ‘Canes team include Autumn Peterson, Amanda Peterson, Chasity Cribbs, Shelby Britt, Amanda Phipps, Tymeria Whitening, Chelsea Carter, Casey Seay, Candice Allen, Megan Kildahl, Erica Bilbrey, Aubee Teribury, Emily Johnston, Alyshea Breaux, and Megan Studdard.

The first round of the state sectionals will be held in Dalton on October 20 and 21.
