William Eli Hadaway

William Eli Hadaway, 83, of Monticello, died Sunday, December 3, at his residence in Monticello.

W.E. Hadaway was born in Jasper County. He lived in Morrow for 26 years where he raised his children and worked for Southern Railway. After retirement he moved to Florida before returning to Monticello 14 years ago.

His parents were the late Benjamin Hadaway and Emily Ruth McKinely Hadaway.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of Smithboro Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 110.

Son, Charles Eli Hadaway, and sisters, Dorothy Hadaway, Jane Rickles, and Sara Lee, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lucille Gambrell Hadaway of Monticello; daughter, Rebecca Hadaway of McDonough; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Rita Hadaway of McDonough, Carl and Gladys Hadaway of Milner, and Ira and Mary Jean Hadaway of McDonough and Mayrene Layson of Milledgeville; sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Troy Thomaston of McDonough; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello, with burial at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA 30236. The Revs. Jeff Pangle and Al Butler officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, at Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro Street, Monticello, GA 31064.

Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
