Birdell Bowden Ward

Funeral services for Birdell Bowden Ward, 71, were held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Midway C.M.E. Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bernard Moore officiated.
She died Friday, Dec. 22.

Mrs. Ward was born April 13, 1935 to the late Ernest and Pauline Bowden in Newton County. She was a member of Midway C.M.E. Church and had worked as a midwife in addition to being employed at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Bowden.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Joe Lewis Ward, Sr.; two sons, Joe Lewis Ward, Jr. of Shady Dale and Calvin Ward of Mansfield; daughters, Earnestine White of Shady Dale, Rubytine Stone, and Eula B. Martin, both of Monticello; sister, Mary L. Key of Covington; brother, Sam Bowden of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
