Tyrone Thurman Is Denied Bond

Tyrone Thurman, who was recently arrested on the felony charge of aggravated assault for slashing several deep cuts into the face of a female, had his first appearance and bond hearing in Magistrate Court last week.

According to information from the court, Mr. Thurman was already on probation with Judicial Alternatives of Georgia (JAG), and they have issued an additional arrest warrant charging him with probation violation, based on his having committed the new criminal offense of aggravated assault.
Based on JAG’s recommendation the Magistrate Court has denied bond at this time.

Mr. Thurman can have a probation revocation hearing which would require the probation office to take some type of formal revocation action on the previous offenses, including incarceration.

If incarceration is recommended, he would not be able to apply for a bond hearing on the new charges until he finished serving the time on the probation violation.

Upon release thereof, or if something other than incarceration is recommended, he would then be entitled to a bond hearing.

Also, deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason J. Averette last week and charged him with theft by receiving stolen property. Mr. Averette also had an outstanding warrant out of Newton County.

After running a vehicle license plate check on a suspicious vehicle the deputies discovered the tag had been stolen in Newton County. Mr. Averette stated a male at a garage on Rocky Plains Road gave him the tag, however the tag had been reported stolen in Newton County when a customer of the garage went to check on work being done on his car and discovered his tag missing.

In addition, after an investigation which began during October with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued last week for Kelly Ann Layton charging her with six counts of theft by taking. The charges allege Ms. Layton cashed six stolen checks during the period of September 17 through September 25.

Ms. Layton admitted cashing the checks, but claimed they were written to her for work she had done for the victim. However, the victim stated Ms. Layton had worked for her, but had been paid in cash and she had never written any checks to her.
