Recreation Department Is Vandalized; Man Is Charged with Unemployment Fraud

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDL) has charged Stanley Roach of Monticello with obtaining unemployment benefit by fraud, and Mr. Roach was arrested on March 30 by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
According to information presented by the GDL, from March 29, 2008 through January 24, 2009, Mr. Roach knowingly made false representations to obtain Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits from the GDL in the amount of $9,920 at a weekly rate of $320 for a 31 week period by falsely representing and stating he earned no wages for that time period, when in fact he was gainfully employed.
His case has a penalty in the amount of $992 and interest in the amount of $2,802 creating a total balance due the state of $13,720. Since being arrested Mr. Roach has been released on a $5,000 bond.
Other criminal activities reported by the JCSO during the period of March 13 through April 3 are as follows:
•The recreation department on Ted Sauls Road, west of Monticello, was vandalized sometime over the weekend. A reward is offered for information leading the arrest and conviction of persons involved.

•On April 1 a resident on Heron Court in Turtle Cove reported an incident of criminal trespass, with no other details available.
•On April 1 the owner of a property located on Whippoorwill Road in Turtle Cove reported the theft of an antique camera.
•On March 31 a property owner in Social Circle reported the March 30 theft of a Black & Decker hammer drill from an address on Hwy 11 with a Mansfield address.
•On March 27 a resident on Magpie Court in Turtle Cove reported the theft of the tag off of his automobile.
•On March 27 a business on Champion Lane in Shady Dale reported the theft of a pressure washer and a weed trimmer.
•On March 26 a resident on Hendenson Mill Road in Mansfield reported the theft of two rod and reels, a trolling motor and a two-man boat.
•On March 14 a resident on Wehunt Road reported the theft of a wood burning stove, a new washer and dryer, air conditioner, furnace, entry doors, electrical wiring, copper pipes and other metals from the air conditioner and furnace.
•On March 13 a resident Wyatt Road in Shady Dale reported missing a firearm.

•Michelle Lee Ogles, 34, Covington—probation violation.
Tiffany Nicole Scott, 24, Eatonton—driving while license suspended or revoked.
Robert Eugene Carpenter, 18, Monticello—disorderly conduct (2 counts).
Christopher Darrell McCart, 22, Monroe—probation violation.
Roberto Cervantes, 23, Mansfield—no license.
Jeffery Lee Hardy, II, 21, Oxford—criminal trespass, theft by receiving stolen property and theft by taking.
Donald Hill, 45, Monticello—simple assault, cruelty to children in the third degree, criminal trespass and interference with a 911 call.
Aron N. Childress, 17, Covington—theft by receiving stolen property and theft by taking.
Krystal Jackson Harrison, 24, Mansfield—aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the third degree.
Brandon Scott Harrison, 28, Mansfield—criminal damage to property in the second degree and cruelty to children in the third degree.
Also, during this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 146 calls for service including 41 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 14 subject needs officer, nine alarm, seven livestock on road, six mechanical breakdown, five each courtesy ride and vandalism of property, and four each dog disturbance, burglary, assist motorist, accident, theft by taking, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown and argument.
Also, three abandoned vehicle, two each domestic, speeding auto, pick up prisoner/subject, welfare check, threatening/harassing calls, checking location and road hazard, one each intoxicated driver, fire/unknown, miscellaneous ems, child abuse/molestation, rape, discharge firearms, possible suicide, private property, persons refuse to leave and attempt to serve warrant.
During this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
•Donavin Kentrell Sands, 22, Monticello—cruelty to children, simple battery, disorderly conduct, cruelty to children third degree, terroristic threats and acts and probation violation.
Teri Lynn Tyler, 55, Monticello—false statements and writings and false report of a crime.
Anthony Smith, 43, Monticello—hold for warrants in Newton Co. and Alabama.
Michael Levi Stapp, 23, Monticello—possession of drug related objects and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
In addition, during this period officers with the MPD responded to 69 calls for service including 15 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six each alarm and escort or convoy, four each music/noise complaint and attempt to serve warrant, three each domestic and private property, two each fight, mechanical break down, theft by taking, subject needs officer, trouble unknown, and vandalism of property.
Also, one each assist motorist, accident, shortness of breath, chest pain, diabetic, fall, counterfeit, juvenile complaint, threatening/harassing calls, road hazard, argument, abandoned vehicle, lost property seizure, sick and 911 hang up.
Furthermore, during this period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Elio Bautista, 25, of Monticello, and charged him with no license and window tint violation.
