Lady ‘Canes Advance To Sweet Sixteen

Last Saturday the Lady ‘Canes traveled to Peachtree City for the first round of the state playoffs, for what most people thought would be their last game of the year.

After all they were playing on the road, playing the number five ranked team in the state, a team with a 24-3 record and the number one seed from Region 5.

No one bothered to tell the Lady ‘Canes they weren’t supposed to win. After all they were the number four seed from Region 7 and had lost their last two games.

In the biggest upset of the tournament the Lady ‘Canes beat Landmark Christian 52-44, and were the only number four seed team in the tournament to advance. Only one number three seed team advanced.

No details of game play or individual points scored were made available, despite repeated attempts to reach the coaches. Last night the team was to travel to Hiawassee for the second round of the state playoffs versus the Towns County Indians with a record of 26-3, the number two seed from Region 8, who defeated Bowdon 63-57 in the first round.

If the Lady ‘Canes can post another win they would move on to the Final Eight and play the winner of the Hancock Central And Trion game on March 1 at Ga. Highlands.
