Richard Vincent Dover

Richard Vincent Dover, 50, of Turtle Cove in Monticello died Friday, Nov. 14, at his home.

He was born December 31, 1957 in Fulton County, the son of the late Donald Ray Dover, Sr., and Dorothy Mae Burdette Dover. He was of the Baptist faith and he worked as a plumber.

Survivors include his daughter, Miranda Dover of Monticello; brother, James Dover of Monticello, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mr. Dover was held Sunday, Nov. 16, from the Sherrell memorial Chapel. Rudy L. Mangham officiated.

A grandson, 11-year-old Richard Easton Dover, wrote and read the following eulogy at Mr. Dover’s service:

“We are here today to remember my Paw Paw, Richard Vincent Dover. My name is also Richard Dover the Second.

“Even though he was a plumber, he had dreams of being a guitarist and since he could not continue to pursue his dream, he supported me in learning to lay guitar. This was our shared dream and I also decided I want to be an architect after going to one of his plumbing jobs.

“My Paw Paw taught me many things. You may not think he was that smart, but he really could give words of wisdom that you should carry through your whole life time.

“I loved my Paw Paw more than my own life. He was my hero.

“One night I was in his room as always and we were talking andhe told me, ‘When I die I want you to be strong and don’t cry, because you can’t stop death, it has to happen to very single one of us.’ So, it’s nothing to cry about and it is something to be glad about. I know we will miss him but trust me we will see him again. I was his Grandson and I did not cry so don’t you cry either. If I see tears, they better be tears of joy.

“Thank you for coming.”

The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Children’s Healthcare, 1687 Tullie Circle N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30329-2320 in memory of Mr. Dover.

Sherrell, Wilson, Mangham Funer Home was in charge of arrangements.
