Wylean Dennis “Duit” Jordan

Funeral services for Mrs. Wylean Dennis “Duit” Jordan, who died December 2, were held Satuday at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Pastor Donna Marie Calix officiated; burial was in South View Cemetery.

Mrs. Jordan was born February 14, 1953, to Julia Mae Dennis and the late Charlie Lee Dennis. She received her high school diploma from Jasper County Training School.
She was employed with the Monticello Police Department for years. She was the first African American and first female on the police force.

In March, 1971, she married Fred Jordan, Jr., and they had two children.

Survivors, in addition to Mr. Jordan, include a daughter, Topeka Jordan Thomas; a son, Jemon Freddrick Jordan; four grandchildren, Joshua Thomas, Haley Thomas, Deveontae Jordan and Kyler Jordan; her mother, Juliea Mae Dennis; stepfather, Robert Lee Campbeel, two brothers, Roosevelt Dennis and Willie Lee Dennis, and other relatives and special friends.

Smith and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
