Track Cougars Prepare for State
The Piedmont Academy track teams are preparing for a busy two weeks before competing at the upcoming state meet in Albany, April 30-May 1.
“We have been fighting a stormy weather season and have already had to cancel two weeks,” coach Beau Johnson said. “We are looking forward to competing at region and state.”
Piedmont has 12 boys and five girls competing and Johnson said he hopes the interest in the program will grow.
The Cougars and Lady Cougars were scheduled to compete at Gatewood Wednesday for pre-region and will travel to Strong Rock Saturday and Wednesday for region.
“Hopefully, the weather will cooperate so the kids can have some fun and compete well at the upcoming events,” Johnson said.
“The GISA state track meet in Albany is the showcase in our league. The GISA does an outstanding job with the meet and is considered one of the best things our league does for our student athletes.”
Competing for the Piedmont girls this spring are Amanda Peterson, Heather Tyler, Danielle Morgan, Jerica Jenkins and Robyn Estes.
Members of the boys team include Wyley Deleza, Hugo McCoy, Will Eckerle, Dakota Collins, Dylan Collins, Austin Mitcham, Wade Roberts, Hayden Lewis, Sam Cleary, Bobby Mitchell, Tyler Cullum and Alex Hall.
