Piedmont Soccer Teams Prepare for Playoffs

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars soccer team will host a first-round state playoff match Saturday.

Meanwhile the varsity boys will likely be on the road in the first round, most likely at LaGrange, coach Robbie Kinard said earlier this week.

Official start times and opponents will be determined late this week once all regular season matches are complete.
Piedmont’s girls defeated Monsignor Donovan on the road in Athens Monday 5-1 behind Kelly King’s two goals. Jerika Jenkins, Nina Blackshear and Jordana Pope also scored goals with Beth Hamilton, Aly Kinard and Megan Calik adding assists.

In recent action, the varsity girls also defeated Monroe Academy last Thursday 3-1. Jenkins scored two goals to pace the Lady Cougars while Pope added one. King and Kinard registered assists.

Last Friday, the Lady Cougars got past Westminster 2-1 behind goals from King and Jenkins, who also had assists.

The Piedmont girls were scheduled to play at Furtah Prep in Woodstock Wednesday. A win in that match would have given the Lady Cougars the region title.

The varsity boys fell to Westminster 3-1 last week with Will Eckerle scoring the lone goal for the Cougars.
On April 28, the Piedmont junior varsity and varsity girls traveled to Stockbridge to face Community Christian. The JV girls lost 4-2 with both goals scored by Heather Tyler on assists by Michaela Rossi.

The varsity girls blanked Community Christian 3-0. Jenkins, Andie Lewis, Kinard and Amanda Peterson led the team in the victory.
