Piedmont Competes at State Track
Piedmont Academy’s Wyley Deleza placed sixth in the high jump at the GISA state track meet in Albany last week while Robyn Estes ran a personal best in the 3,200-meter run to pace the Lady Cougars.
Dylan Collins also participated in the 200-meter but was unable to qualify. Jacob Russell threw a personal best in the shot put but came up short of the top eight.
“I am very proud of our kids and how they did considering we don’t have a track facility to work on our events,” said Piedmont track coach Beau Johnson. “Several of our kids had their best times and throws of the year at the state meet. That is what you want. You cannot control how the other participants do, only yourself.”
Improving during the course of the season is a goal for all track athletes, the coach said.

“If you improved during the season you have had a successful track season and several of our athletes did that,” Johnson said. “The state meet in Albany is a very cool and unique event. I hope Piedmont continues to get better and more participation in track.”
The Brentwood boys and girls were the AA state-runners up as Bulloch Academy claimed both state championships in AA.
“I also want to personally thank Karlene Strother for helping me feed and get our athletes to and from the meet in Albany,” Johnson said. “Without her help the trip would not have been a success. I have enjoyed track season and wish the athletes the best for next season.”
