Suspects Sought in Armed Robbery
Monticello Police Chief Bud Smith confirmed that the Petro Convenience Store on Frobel Street was robbed at 9:30 p.m. on Memorial Day when two robbers entered the store with handguns. There may have been a third participant driving the get away car.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation, and its crime scene unit was on hand Monday night. Officers are concentrating on two different vehicles which were seen in the vicinity, attempting to determine which one of the vehicles was the actual get away car.
The male manager on duty at the time was struck several times on the head with a pistol butt and was later treated for scalp wounds at the hospital.
The robbers were described as two black males wearing masks and white gloves, who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
