James Steven Asbell
Funeral services for James Steven Asbell, who died May 20, were held Saturday, May 30, at Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor, officiated.
Mr. Asbell was born January 16, 1954 to the late Robert Sr. and Bessie Lee Asbell in Hillsboro. He later moved to Monticello where he lived until his death.
Mr. Asbell attended school in Jasper County and worked several jobs including Georgia Pacific until his health declined.
Early in life Mr. Asbell became a member of White Chapel C.M.E. Church in Hillsboro, and later moved his membership to Springfield Baptist Church.
Family and friends were very important to him and he always reminisced about friends and family past and present.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Cathy Asbell, and his step-daughter, La Tommia Rivers.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie Goldsberry Asbell of Monticello, three daughters, Tonya Seabrooks of San Antonio, TX, Shandra Prater of Columbus, OH, and Cavanna Asbell of Monticello.; a sister Gloria Ussery of Juliette; two brothers, Robert Asbell, Jr. of Savannah, and Donald Asbell of Athens.
Also, grandchildren, Jymere and Tymere Seabrooks of San Antonio, TX; Kahleel and Shyandra Jamison of Columbus, Ohio, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
