Cougars Play On All-Star Team

Recent Piedmont Academy graduates Josh Stevenson, Corbett Tucker, and Kale Blackshear were able to take to the baseball diamond one more time on the high school level last weekend.
The trio took part in the annual GISA All-Star game matching teams from Class A/AA against players from Class AAA. The combined A/AA team won both games with the former Cougar players having a big hand in the outcome.
Piedmont coach Danny Camp was an assistant for the A/AA squad.
“It was nice to see them play one more time,” Camp said.
The A/AA team won the first game of the doubleheader, played at Stratford Academy in Macon, 6-2, before taking the nightcap 13-11.

Tucker connected for two homeruns in the first contest. Blackshear was the starting center fielder while Stevenson got the nod on the pitcher’s mound.
In the second game, Stevenson was able to work behind the plate at catcher, a position he had played since the seventh grade.
“We only had one catcher so Josh was thrilled to help us out,” Camp said. “He enjoyed every minute of it.”
Tucker worked 2.2 scoreless innings in the second half of the doubleheader.
In the second game, the Class A/AA team rallied from an 11-4 deficit for the victory. The team also turned a rare triple play in the contest.
“All three of our players were big contributors,” Camp said. “All of our players had an excellent day and represented our school well. We all enjoyed it.”
