P.W. ‘Sonny’ Pratt, Jr.,

P.W. “Sonny” Pratt, Jr., died June 19 after a battle with cancer.

He was born October 26, 1936 in Newton County to the late Parks Winfield, Sr. and Emma Thomson Pratt.

Mr. Pratt graduated from Newton County High School in 1954 and the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1958 with a degree in industrial management. While at Tech, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He received his MBA at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business in 1959. He served in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves.

He was president of Pratt-Dudley Building Supply, Inc. in Covington and was a former member of the Covington City Council.

Mr. Pratt was preceded in death by his brothers, William and James Pratt; sisters, Joyce Pratt Hopkins and Doris Pratt Kirkland.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carole Weeks Pratt; a son, Dr. Parks W. “Win” Pratt of Dothan, Ala.; daughter, Susan Pratt Mitchell of Monticello; grandchildren, John Winfield Pratt, Virginia Allison Pratt, Matthew Pratt Mitchell and Laura Ann Mitchell; brother, Hugh K. Pratt of Augusta; sisters, Sarah Pratt Moore of Covington, Anne Pratt Poss of Thomson, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Mr. Pratt was held Monday, June 22, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Rev. Malcolm C. Davis and Dr. Homer Sharp officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025 or the charity of one’s choice.
