Cougars Prepare for Season

Cougars Practice for Upcoming Season

The Piedmont Academy football team will get a true preseason test Friday when it hosts Tattnall Square for a scrimmage at 4 p.m.

Coach Rhett Farmer, a former assistant at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, was able to line up the preseason contest after a scheduled scrimmage against Monroe Academy had to be cancelled since the Forsyth school closed in recent weeks.

The Cougars have been holding preseason practice for approximately two weeks now having held two-a-days earlier this week. Farmer, who is in his first season as Piedmont’s head coach, wanted to have a preseason scrimmage to gauge where his players stood at this point.

While this Friday’s event will be a controlled scrimmage, it will be against the program which is the standard setter in the GISA when it comes to football. Since 1988, the Trojans, led by Barney Hester, have won numerous Class AAA state titles and are once again considered a preseason favorite in their classification.

Piedmont is coming off a region championship and a trip to the second round of the state playoffs at the AA level. Farmer’s Cougars will open the regular season against Gatewood on August 28.
