Lady Cougars Record Big Win

The Piedmont Academy softball team has taken its share of big losses this season facing some of the top teams in the state.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cougars were on the other end of the scoreboard as they recorded a 10-0 victory against Briarwood on the road.

Hailey Burnham earned her third win of the season working all five innings effectively keeping the Briarwood offense in check doing an “outstanding job,” coach Danny Camp said.
Piedmont scored one run in the first on an RBI single from Destiny Walker which brought Kacy Swart home.

The score remained 1-0 until the fourth when the Lady Cougars would put five more runs on the board. Piedmont closed the door in the firth with four more runs.

Burnham, along with fellow freshman Kacy Swart, have been handling the pitching duties for the Lady Cougars while Alicia Bassett has been out with an injury. Bassett is expected to return this week.

In Tuesday’s win, Swart was 3-for-4 at the plate and had three stolen bases. Walker was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Randi Small was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks.

“We did what we needed to do,” Camp said. “Kacy was on base as our leadoff batter and we were able to drive her home.”
On Saturday, Piedmont dropped two games against strong foes. LaGrange defeated the Lady Cougars 10-0 while Arlington took an 11-0 win.

“They are two of the top teams in the state,” Camp said. “We didn’t kick it around or anything. They are just good. They are tough. It was a good experience. We’ve played the best so far this year.”

Piedmont will host Strong Rock today at 4 p.m.
