‘Canes Face Hancock Central Friday
After a bye week the ‘Canes go head-to-head with Hancock Central tomorrow night at Rose Bowl field with a record of 1-1.
Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jimmy Hughes summed up his observations about his opponent, “I watched them play Greene County last Friday night. Their record is 0-3, the same as it was last year at this time, but they have improved on their offensive and defensive lines. They are aggressive and do a lot of blitzing.
“They have a good coach and some good players, but they just haven’t been able to put it all together.”
As for the ‘Canes, Coach Hughes said, “We may get SeDarius Rooks back this week or next. We’re healthier than we have been, and I know our kids are ready to play after a week off. Our quarterback is all right, but his toe injury is something he’ll be battling for a while.
“We will try to do what we do and do it well. We seem to be getting better offensively and defensively. But their intensity is what has helped the kids the most. I commend them for how hard they play and how hard they practice. If we can limit our turnovers and play with a lot of intensity, I think we’ll be fine.”
The JV ‘Canes lost their first game 28-2 to Southwest Macon last Thursday. They are scheduled to play their second game today at Social Circle at 5 p.m.
After losing their first game to Youth, the MS ‘Canes traveled to Greene County last week and lost 28-8. The were scheduled to play Social Circle at home yesterday.
In spite of their two losses, Head Coach Charlie Frazier is still optimistic, and said, “We still have a goal to make the playoffs, and the way we have been playing it’s still a viable goal. Our defense is playing well and we’re working on an our offensive scheme against Social Circle.”
