John Edmund Dumas, Jr.
John Edmund Dumas, Jr., 48, of Atlanta, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Dumas is the son of John, Sr. and Janice Day Dumas, of Jonesboro and Hillsboro. He was born on August 10, 1961 in Atlanta. He was a 1980 graduate from Woodward Academy in College Park, where he was on the wrestling team. He attended Auburn University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in building construction. He was vice president of the family business, Southeastern Roof Decks, Inc. Along with his church, he did mission work in a Russian orphanage and participated in the church league.
Mr. Dumas was an avid hunter and fisherman, an adventurous camper and traveler. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend.
Survivors include his parents, his sisters, Jamice Meschke of St. Simons Island and Laney Wood of McDonough, his nephews, Paul Meschke, Jr., of Brunswick, Ben Wood of Statesboro and niece, Lacey Wood of Macon. He left two faithful companions, his dogs, Yodi and Frito and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends and family Friday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.
Funeral services were to be held at Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro, with burial in the Dumas family cemetery in Hillsboro. Pastor Phillip Gilbert was to officiate.
Pallbearers were Sidney Dumas, Scotty Dumas, Paul Meschke Jr., Ben Wood, Barry Wood and Jimmy Dumas.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Loraine Dumas Outreach Ministry, c/o B.J. Resseau, 2679 Dumas Road, Hillsboro, GA 31038.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
