Cougars Girls Tennis Heads to Region

The Piedmont Academy varsity girls tennis team will compete at the Region 1-AA tournament Tuesday in Sandersville.

This year’s tournament is be ing hosted by Brentwood. The top four finishers in singles and doubles play will advance to state. Last week, the Lady Cougars closed out the regular season against Monsignor Donovan.

“They put a lot emphasis on tennis.” said Piedmont coach Robert McMichael. “They have a team loaded with experienced players. We did win a consolation match.”

The upcoming region event will be a one-day tournament. McMichael said he will look for his players to continue to gain experience at the event, as they have done throughout the 2010 season.

“That’s what we have tried to do all season,” he said. “Hopefully, what we have learned this year will benefit us in the future.”
