Lady ‘Canes Win Over Region Foe Putnam

The Lady ‘Canes traveled to Butler Monday and were defeated 5-0 by Taylor County in a rare shut out.

They traveled to Crawford County last weekend for a five game tournament and went 2-3 by defeating Lamar and Howard and losing to Mary Persons, Rutland and Crawford.

Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “We played better than what the record shows. I’m still not completely comfortable with our defensive line up and we were moving players around all weekend attempting to find a good fit for us.”

Last week, in their first region game the team defeated Putnam 11-3, and the game versus Baldwin was rained out.

Coach Jenkins said, “Putnam was a big win for us and they should be one of our four playoff teams in the region. Anytime you can get a decisive victory like that against a quality region opponent, it’s always a good thing.”

The win gives the team a 1-0 record in the region and 5-4 overall record.
