Hoop Stars End Good Season

County Hoop Stars was very successful. Every minute, every second, every hour was worthwhile, said the coaches, giving an opportunity to the children who participated.

The process to get the Hoop Stars Basketball program started wasn’t easy, but with many prayers and faithful supporters everything worked out for the good, said Rufus Whitlock, head coach.

The Jasper County Hoop Stars achieved numerous awards this summer participating in various tournaments traveling to different cities.
The 10 and under hoop stars were coached by Greg Robinson and they didn’t get any awards this summer, although, they competed very hard winning many games.

The 12 and under Hoop Stars coached by Pastor Rufus Whitlock Sr. won several awards. The first award was in Putnam County where they won first place. They also traveled to Greene County and came home with a second place award.

The 15 and under team was coached by Don Stoghill and won several awards competing in various tournaments.

They won second place when they traveled to Greene County. With a lot of hard work and practice all of the players made tremendous improvements in their basketball skills and also in their academics.
Pastor Whitlock sincerely thanks all the parents who allowed their children to participate. He also wishes to thank all coaches, volunteers, concession workers, scorekeepers and certainly the fans who were faithful in supporting the Hoop Stars.

A special thank you goes out to Pastor Jason Parr for allowing the Hoop Stars to use their church bus to travel.
Also, to Juanita Davis and the Jasper County NAACP, Pastor Preston and Sharon Campbell and the Maddox Chapel Church family, the Jasper County Board of Education, Mayor Glenn Newsome, Milton Dennis, Bill Gibson, and to all of the sponsors.

“I would like to express to the City of Monticello and Jasper County that giving the children a positive avenue and keeping them off the streets is one of many missions,” said Mr. Whitlock.
Also, for further information the traveling portion of the program is complete, but on the weekends, fans can still come and watch the Hoop Stars at the Old Washington Park School.

Pastor Whitlock still plans to work with the youth whenever they need help with their basketball skills.
The entire organization is looking forward to next year and expects that the performance will continue to improve and obtain higher levels with the ultimate goal being to join the AAU level, while keeping a home based team.

If anyone would like to make contributions to the Hoop Stars they can be made at McIntosh State Bank.
