Broadway Comes to Monticello

DUSTIN BRAYLEY, MORGAN JAMES, AND ROB EVAN (L-R)

If you have never experienced a full-on Broadway show, to do so is a must for your bucket list.

But, if you were at the concert held last Friday which featured Broadway stars Rob Evan, Morgan James, and Dustin Brayley (and accompanied by pianist Galen Butler, who I could swear was channeling many giants of the piano world), then you have come pretty darn close.

So if you never make it to New York to experience the real deal, you can check that off your list because Broadway came to Monticello in full force.

The music and performances were of the highest Broadway quality and each carried you along an incredible musical journey as they explored memorable tunes from Broadway shows (Jekyll & Hyde, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, The Wiz and Rent) popular music, gospel and noted songs by some of the world’s greatest musicians.

Rob teamed up with Ginger Malone to create a very warm and poignant moment when they sang a beautiful rendition of The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Rob, Dustin and Morgan sang several tunes from their show The Rock Tenor and each performer showcased his or her range, style and the power of their chops throughout the evening.

The stars were in town to fulfill a promise to perform a benefit to raise funds for a Mission School for the children of Guadalajara, Mexico. The event was arranged by local business leader, Thurman Willis when the planned show for Macon was moved to October. Rob is the epitome of a local boy made good in the world of musical theatre and to have him perform here at home was just a very special treat.

We enjoyed it all Rob, do come again and bring those friends with you.
