Woman Found Guilty of Illegal Dumping
Last week a Jasper County Jury listened to evidence for and against Kelly Lynn Ray who was indicted by the Grand Jury on the charge of illegal dumping on May 12, 2007 after raw sewage was dumped on the public roadway of Old Broughton Road.
After the jury returned a guilty verdict Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, sentenced the defendant to five years to be served on probation, fines and fees of $8,582, and banned her from Jasper County.
In a second trial, a jury found Troy Andrews not guilty of theft by taking after the defense managed to cast some doubt as to who all had access to the room from which money was allegedly taken. The charge against Mr. Andrews was dismissed.
A third defendant, Joshua Barrett, who was charged with burglary, pled guilty prior to his trial and was sentenced to five years with 180/240 days to be served in a State Probation Boot Camp/Detention Center with credit for time served since July 5, 2010 and fines and fees of $1,382.

•James Ross Johnson violated his probation by committing the new offenses of fleeing and attempting to elude, driving on the wrong side of the road, obstruction of an officer, reckless driving, speeding and failure to report. The balance of Mr. Johnson’s probation was revoked to the Jasper County Jail with an end date of August 26, 2010.
•Dewayne Boyd Beasley violated his probation by committing the new offenses of failure to report and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. The balance of Mr. Beasley’s probation was ordered to be served in the State Penal System with and end date of April 10, 2011.
•Jarvis Carter violated his probation by committing the new offenses of testing positive for marijuana, changing residence without notification, failure to perform community service and failure to abide by curfew as directed. Mr. Carter was ordered to serve 120 days in the Jasper County Jail suspended upon entry into a State Detention Center for 60/90 days after which he will be returned to Intensive Probation as previously ordered.
•Antonio D. Horton pled guilty to theft by receiving stolen merchandise, and was sentenced to three years with credit for time served since August 14, 2009.
