Morning Mess

Church Street at Washington Street in Monticello was impassable for more than an hour Monday morning after these two cars collided in the intersection.

Telisha Smith of Monticello was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM. She stopped at the stop sign on Church Street, then proceeded. At that time, a 2008 Chevy Cobalt driven by Gladys Wilson, also of Monticello, was traveling on West Washington Street and struck Ms. Smith’s vehicle.

A passenger in Ms. Smith’s vehicle, Ricardo Ingram, was injured and transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital. Two other passengers, four-month-old twins, Alex and Alexis Smith, were not injured. Ms. Smith was cited for failure to yield after stopping at a stop sign.
