Labor Day Weekend Means Early Deadlines
Next Monday, Sept. 6, is the Labor Day holiday, unoffically signalling the end of summer.
Virtually all government offices, except emergency services, as well as business offices, banks, post offices and more will be closed for the holiday.
The Monticello News office will also be closed. Therefore, all items to be submitted to The News office for next week’s paper should be submitted no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 3.
This means classified ads, including yard sales, retail ads, legal ads, all news items, including church announcements, birthdays, school news, and anything else to be included in the September 9 Monticello News.
Items may be submitted by e-mail until 5 p.m. Monday. Send to editor@themonticellonews.com, but, as always, it is wise to submit items before the last minute.
Labor Day, always celebrated the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, says the Department of Labor website.
It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
