Lady Cougars Continue to Win

Piedmont Academy’s fast-pitch softball team continues to be on a roll.

The Lady Cougars defeated Heritage 11-0 in four innings Tuesday and are now 15-5 overall.

Carla Martin, Kacy Swart and Hailey Burnham each pitched Tuesday in the dominant performance.

“I hope we can continue to play well,” coach Danny Camp said. “We have a tough opponent coming up in LaGrange. We have been playing well. I am proud of the players.”

Prior to Tuesday, the Lady Cougars defeated Briarwood 9-2 last Thursday. Martin earned the win for what was her 11th victory at the time.

“We played well defensively,” Camp said. “Overall, it wasn’t a good day offensively until we got things going late.”
Piedmont scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open what had been a close contest.

“It was another big game for Carla,” Camp said of his freshman pitcher. “She didn’t have her best outing of the season but she battled through it and helped us get the win. That was good to see, especially from a freshman. There are going to be days like that. I told her pitchers who are paid millions of dollars have days like that.”

Swart was 2-for-4 at the plate while Burnham was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Savannah Holifield finished 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.
The Lady Cougars swept Central Fellowship Monday 14-0 and 15-0. “We did what we needed to do,” Camp said. “They are just young and are still trying to build a program.”

Swart and Heather Tyler were both 2-for-2 with an RBI in the opener. Burnham drove in four runs and Savannah McGinnis had two in the nightcap. Piedmont hosts LaGrange today at 4:30 p.m.
“They have been to the Final Four several times in the last few years,” Camp said. “We are looking forward to it. It would be a big win for us.”
