‘Canes Lose to Jackson Friday

The Jackson Red Devils came to town last Friday, and even though the ‘Canes led 14-7 at one point and held the game to a 14-14 tie at half time, they went on to lose 34-21 to a higher classification (AAA) team.

Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “We gave up three big pass plays in the second half, all for touchdowns and two of which were on fourth down.

Other than that I was pleased with the enthusiasm of the team, we just made some mental mistakes.”

The team begins region play versus Morgan County this Friday night.
Coach Roberts said, “They are 2-0 and they won big last week. After dropping down from AAA they will be a big test for us. They come straight at you and will try to overpower you. We’ll continue to work and try to get better as a team.”

The only injury reported by the ‘Canes is Juveral Bermudez, who will be inactive this week.

The Morgan County Bulldogs who have gotten off to a 2-0 start by defeating Walnut Grove 26-12 and Avondale 55-0.

After two seasons with only two wins in AAA, the Bulldogs are back in AA, where they had made the playoffs every year since 1996.
Head Coach Bill Malone led the team to back-to-back 1-9 records in AAA after guiding them to a 7-4 record in AA his first season.
Both wins in the past two seasons have come against Jackson County. Look for seniors Drew Stapleton and Terrance Heard, both 8 AAA All Region Players last year, to have an impact in the game.
