Tough Contest Follows Easy Week

It appears that luck might have counted more than skill in last week’s Monticello News football contest, sponsored by Piedmont Academy.
Five-year-old Ardarius Benton was the winner who collected a $25 prize from Tony Tanner, headmaster at Piedmont Academy. Young Mr. Benton was the only player to correctly guess the winner of as many as 13 games listed in the contest.
Of the 15 games listed, only five players got 12 or more right to have their names added to the honor roll, or in the case of Michael Wilson, Willy Roberts and John Braden to be the first contest players with two chances at the grand prize drawing.
Ardarius had his name added to the honor roll, of course, and the other additions were N.D. Manning and Willy Roberts. Ardarius’ mom said she reads the games out to her son and he picks the team he thinks will win. His mother told him he would not win this week, but he fooled her. He said he is going to buy a football and some snacks with his prize money.

Maybe this week the adults will do better, since youth have won the first two weeks of the football contest. This week, R&R Discount Goods on Venture Court will give someone a prize worth at least $25. Anyone can play, and football knowledge may be helpful, but it certainly is not necessary.
The contest contains a mix of high school, college and professional football games.
All you have to do to play is pick the winner of each game listed, pick the tiebreaker score, and submit to The Monticello News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 17. Entries may be submitted by fax or in person. Please write legibly.
The contest, including complete rules in on page 11 of today’s paper.
