Lady Cougars Win Again Tuesday
The Piedmont Academy softball team took care of business in rapid fashion Tuesday recording a 17-1 win against Sinclair Christian.
“They are new program,” coach Danny Camp said. “We did what we needed to do. This team has come a long way.”
Tuesday’s victory was the 19th for the season for the fast-pitch team.
Earlier this week the Lady Cougars defeated Briarwood on the road Monday, 14-3, as Carla Martin recorded her 15th victory of the season.
Offensively, Hailey Burnham was 3-for-4 while Cheyenne Galloway added three hits. Kacy Swart, Heather Tyler and Savannah Holifield also contributed offensively.
Piedmont scored five runs in the first and five in the sixth to help lead the Lady Cougars to the win. Camp’s team managed at least one run in every inning.

On Saturday, Piedmont hosted two games, defeating the Gwinnett Barons 10-3 and falling to John Milledge 2-0. In the opener, Destiny Walker was 2-for-3 with a RBI, with Galloway driving in two runs. Holifield was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Martin recorded the win.
In the second outing of the day against John Milledge, missed scoring opportunities hurt the Lady Cougars.
“We had chances in the fourth and sixth innings,” Camp said. “We just couldn’t break through with a big hit.”
Swart was 3-for-4 at the plate against the Lady Trojans.
Last Thursday Piedmont took a 5-3 victory against rival Gatewood on the road. Leading 2-0 for a good portion of the contest, the Lady Cougars suddenly found themselves trailing after Gatewood pushed three runs across in the bottom of the sixth.
“That stunned us somewhat,” Camp said. “We had been leading the whole game and suddenly we were behind. We were able to regain our focus and take the lead back.”
In the following inning, Swart had a leadoff walk followed by a single from Tyler and a walk by Walker. Burnham then had a two-run double. Galloway added another RBI for the 5-3 final.
Swart earned the win and was also 2-for-3 at the plate. Burnham finished 2-for-4 with three RBI while Galloway was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Piedmont is scheduled to travel to Heritage in Newnan Thursday and will host a round-robin tournament Saturday with Loganville Christian, Arlington and Gatewood.
