William I. “Billy” Loyd

William I. “Billy” Loyd, 76, of Hillsboro, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Mr. Loyd was born to the late Idus and Elizabeth Waits Loyd of Monticello on July 13, 1934. Like his father before him, he lived in Jasper County his entire life. Before retirement, he was a Police Officer for the city of Monticello and the former owner of Loyd’s Gulf Service Station. After retirement, he continued to work in the law enforcement field as a bailiff at the Jasper County Courthouse. He was a member of the Police Officers’ Association and a past president of the Jasper County Jaycees.

“Mr. Billy” as he was also known by some of his younger friends, was married for 57 years to Sylvia Gordon Loyd.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Hillsboro; only child and spouse, Bill and Cindy Loyd of Macon; only grandchild and spouse, Will and Tiffany Loyd of Concord; three great-grandchildren, Forrest, Lucas and Cole Loyd of Concord.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 12, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home, with burial in West View Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Carter officiated.

Pallbearers were Preston Wynens, Tony Cunard, Clay Cadwell, Dan Jordan, and Ronnie Tillman. Honorary pallbearers were Tate Turner, Lonnie Cunard, Hollis Rogers, Molden Tillman, Jack Bailey, Jimmy Fullerton, Frank Phillips, and James Harrison.

The family suggests donations to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Jackie Pate, 1994 Hwy 11S, Hillsboro, Ga. 31038.
