Lady Canes Lose to Pike Co.

This past Saturday, in a best two-of-three, the Lady ‘Canes were defeated two straight by Pike County.

Pike County, the regular season champions won the first game 9-1.
Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “They put on a hitting show like we’ve never seen before. They hit a grand slam, a three run homer and a solo homer. Usually when you give up a home run it’s on a pitch that’s easy to handle, but two of their homers were on great pitches.”

The Lady ‘Canes kept it close until late in the second game, then went on to loose 8-3.

Coach Jenkins said, “We played well in the second game. We came out and battled even though it would have been easy to give up after the first game.

It was 3-3 until they scored five runs in the top of the seventh to put it out of reach. We played good defense and hit the ball well, but were just a couple of hits short. Until then we kept it close with a team which will be playing Morgan for the region championship today.”

The Lady ‘Canes are scheduled to play Crawford County at home today beginning at approximately 5:00 p.m. in a one-game series to determine the third and fourth seeds in the state tournament, while the region championship game between Pike and Morgan will determine the one and two seeds from the region.

Next week the Lady ‘Canes will travel to a still undetermined location in South Georgia on Wednesday, October 13, for the first round of the state playoffs which will be a best two-of-three series.

The top four teams in each region go on to play in the state championship.
