Local Man Is Arrested for Break In at Dave’s
According to the Monticello Police Department (MPD) Jesse James Gude, 43, of Monticello was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with burglary in the break-in at Dave’s Barbecue at the corner of Frobel and Greene Streets sometime after midnight Saturday.
The front window of the restaurant was broken out, several items were reported missing and the cash register, which was empty, was destroyed.
Also broken into this past Saturday night were The Sweet Spot on the corner of the Square where a laptop computer, a Karaoke machine, cookies, a case of Sprite and Motown Karaoke tapes were taken.
According to the MPD, Mr. Gude is a suspect in these two break-ins, as well as one at the Methodist Church, all of which are still under investigation.
Mr. Gude remains incarcerated in the Jasper County Jail under a probation hold.
Also, no arrest has been made in the September 18 armed robbery of the Monticello Food Mart just off the Square. According to the MPD this case is also still under investigation.

Other arrests reported by the MPD for the period of September 28 through October 5 include the following:
Tommie Jackson, 76, Monticello—possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender probation.
Walter Mead Carter, 58, Monticello—public drunkenness.
During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 53 calls for service including nine each stopping suspicious person/vehicle and escort or convoy, four each alarm, accident and subject needs officer, three each trouble unknown and vandalism of property, one each dog disturbance, prowler report, burglary, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, mental person, be on the lookout, crowd disbursement, assault, juvenile com;plaint, private property, property found, trespassing, argument, persons refuse to leave, recover stolen auto and seizure.
Also, during this same period the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported the following arrests:
Terry Edward Ryles, Sr., 55, Monticello—child support.
David Brett Barton, 27, Rutledge—failure to maintain lane, driving while license suspended or revoked, suspended registration and no insurance.
Jerry Nathan Lawley, 26, Newborn—probation violation.
Jessica Renee Palmer, 27, Mansfield—hold for warrant in Newton Co.
Cody Lawshawn Carter, 18, Monticello—possession/manufacture/distribution of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
William Trey Patrick, 18, Monticello—possession/manufacture/distribution of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
In addition, during this period deputies with the JCSO responded to 149 calls for service including 20 subject needs officer, 19 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 17 alarm, nine accident, seven pickup prisoner, six each assist motorist and trouble unknown, five burglary, four each dog disturbance, mechanical break down and theft by taking, three each speeding auto,juvenile complaint, music/noise complaint and transport of patient, two each livestock on road, be on the lookout, welfare check, discharge firearms, threatening/harassing calls, trespassing, argument and request DNR, one each fight, domestic, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, escort or convoy, fire/structure, miscellaneous EMS, assault, possible suicide, vandalism of property, road hazard, persons refuse to leave, VGCSA, identity fraud/theft, recover stolen auto and 911 hang up.
