Edward Jackson “Jack” Bailey, age 75, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, at his residence in Monticello.

Former Sheriff Jack Bailey was a lifelong resident of Monticello. His parents were the late Robert and Myrtice Edwards Bailey. He worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission for 20 years. He was a member of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department starting as part-time Deputy in 1959. Jack served as Sheriff for the last 8 years of his career until retirement in 1984. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Brother, James Bailey preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Beatrice Benton Bailey of Monticello; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Vickie Bailey of Monticello; grandchildren, Dorianna Jones, Jacob Pope, Rachel Bailey, and Lee Bailey; great grandchildren, MaKayla Jones, Shaylee Jones, Jonathan Jones, and Jake Pope; and sisters, Janet Davis of Monticello, and Barbara Finney of Jackson.

Funeral services were to be held Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Enon Baptist Church. Burial will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. Jeremy Tondee and Rev. Chris Allen will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Bailey, Al Bailey, William Oliver, Tommy Davis, Tom Tillman, and Donnie Pope.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Enon Baptist Church, PO Box 265, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
