WRECKS

A Monticello police car and dump truck had a close encounter last Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The dump truck came through Monticello and a driver behind him reported erratic driving. A Monticello policeman, Richard Elkins, got behind the dump truck, and made a traffic stop on Hwy. 11 south, just past Hwy. 380, Jerry Ambe was driving the 1990 Freightliner dump truck owned by G&H Trucking of Lithonia.

Mr. Ambe pulled over into a driveway, and when the policeman stopped behind him the brake on the truck failed and the truck rolled into the patrol car. The officer with the Georgia State Patrol said he had the truck’s brakes checked and only one brake out of six was working properly. He cited the driver for driving on a suspended license, and the city is expected to take other charges.

Last Thursday, law enforcement was called to an overturned tractor-trailer on Hwy. 16 west of Monticello. Nathale Walthall was driving the 2007 Mack truck owned by Foley Products Co. of Adairsville. He was charged with failure to maintain lane
