Upsets Cause Trouble For Contest Players

Susan Hinshaw, Tim Born

Last week’s contest proved to be a bear for contest players. With 220 people playing, only three got as many as 12 right to be added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll. Less than 100 got as many as 10 right.

Susan Hinshaw and Tink Dover both correctly guessed the winners of 13 games listed, but Ms. Hinshaw won with her tie-breaker prediction of 52, in a game that an astronomical 83 points were scored. Mr. Dover guessed 27 points would be scored.

Ethel M. Jones also has another chance at the grand prize added beside her name for getting 12 right.

For her efforts, Ms. Hinshaw picked up a $25 prize from Tim Born at Monticello Pawn Shop. Ms. Hinshaw enters the contest regularly and won once last year, too.

Wisconsin’s 31-17 upset of No. 1 Ohio State was the biggest upset of the week, but the Atlanta Falcons also threw some people off, and the Hurricane faithful were disappointed again.

This week, players will again have 15 games for which to determine the winners, and will need a tie-breaker guess in case it’s real close. The winner will pick up a $25 prize from Susan Holmes, candidate for state representative.

Anyone can play; no particular expertise is required. Just fill in the form, or a facsimile thereof, and get it to The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 22.
