Lady Canes Lose In First Round of State Playoffs
After traveling to Baxley last week the Lady ‘Canes were eliminated by Appling County 6-1 in the first game and were shut out 8-0 in the second, ending their season with an overall record of 15-15.
The team will only lose two players to graduation, those being seniors Sicily Lentini and Lexie Fields.
Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins has high expectations for next year, and well into the future.
He said, “The majority of our starters were freshmen and sophomores, and at the beginning of the season I thought a playoff appearance would be an accomplishment for us.
“But as the season went along I realized we were capable of doing just that, and that’s one of the reasons that losing in the first round was somewhat disappointing, even though it was to a team that won 27 games.
“We did compete with them and played well the first game, just never could get the big hit. They scored three runs late in the game to break it open.
“We had a great group of kids this year, who worked hard and were very coachable.”
