A Personal Moment
This week I have to go a little personal for a moment and give a shout out to a Mother who recently lost her son and was not allowed the full respect owed her as a mother as she mourned his home going.
Mrs. Mable (Dearro) I, like so many others knew your son Bobby from the many years he worked at the neighborhood grocery store and I’m sure I, like others, could not always immediately know which one was Bobby or which was Benny.
But we did know they were your sons and your late husbands’ sons. When I first boarded a school bus to go to the Carrie H. Taylor school in Shady Dale, it was your husband who drove the bus and though he was a mild mannered man and always gave us that ‘look’ when he peered in the rear view mirror to find some of us being a little rowdy or loud or trying to pretend we had boyfriends or girlfriends.
When we were being chastised for things that happened at school or on his bus we just weren’t sure if our parent’s information was a first hand accounting from Mr. “Jelly” and when news got home before we did, even though most of us didn’t have a phone at the time, was that just that incredible ‘knowing’ parents had?
At any rate, I want to say to you Mrs. Mable, it is and has always been a place of honor for the Mother to receive proper recognition at the funeral of her child and to be acknowledged as one of that child’s survivors in an obituary and the fact that you were denied those things, know that you and your late husband’s son along with his Creator knew the type of Mother you were and place no value on decisions to try to discredit you.
I share in your grief and I’m just saying that all you have to do is Stay Strong as you mourn your son’s passing.
Now, are we living in a crazy world or what? I’m just saying…we have too many loud voices proclaiming we take up arms to protest our government, we encourage people to kill doctors who abide by the law and perform procedures we don’t believe in, we have people wanting to kill Americans just for being Americans, we destroy our economy by sending jobs to countries that pay a pittance in hourly wages yet we protest that jobs aren’t being created for workers here, we allow questionable monies to fund political campaigns in our country, knowing there is no free lunch and somebody wants something.
The list is too long to lament about and frankly just gives me a headache. How about in the midst of all of this craziness, we get a request for an apology for a 19 year old misdeed that proves no one is perfect and above reproach, yet somehow the strange request is misdirected and in the end exposes the requestor as being in a tenuous position, at best, of being married to a man in a place of high honor (?), and revealing that there is funding from questionable sources for her group that wants to disavow any legislation put forward by the current administration—how exactly does that square?
Then there’s the fellow who got a nasty eye wound from a well placed stiletto heel for being naughty, and there’s a tsunami in Indonesia indicative of odd and unusual weather changes, and more and more families are becoming homeless and hungry.
I think the only bright note is the rescue of the Chilean miners. But we move along reveling in misplaced hate speech and deeds. What are we planning for that generation we so loudly complain will inherit the spoils of our actions? Well, I don’t know but I’m Just Saying….
