Halloween Means Haunticello

Monticello will celebrate Haunticello tomorrow, Oct. 29, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with businesses on and around the Square offering treats for children who come calling “Trick or Treat” and are dressed in costume.

The event is sponsored by the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the treats being given out by businesses, Igor the Mad Doctor will be on the Square to entertain the children.

There will be a costume contest at 4:30 p.m., and a pumpkin-carving contest at 5 p.m. Pumpkins should be carved before they are brought uptown. Haunticello was designed as a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treat.

The News has received numerous phone calls about when children will trick-or-treat in the neighborhoods. Halloween is Sunday, Oct. 31, and presumably those children who trick-or-treat in the neighborhoods will do it then. Many area churches are offering alternatives to trick-or-treating with fall festivals, trunk-or-treat, and more.
