County Employee Is Charged with Theft
Jasper County Code Enforcement Officer Raymond Rogers has been charged with theft by deception and making false statements in writing after an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
A warrant for his arrest was issued Monday.
Mr. Rogers provided a false payroll document to the Jasper County Government for Mike Cleveland in order to deprive said government of approximately $300, according to the papers filed. Allegedly this was done in order to pay Mr. Cleveland for work performed on Mr. Rogers’ personal property.
Since the issuance of the warrant Mr. Rogers has turned himself in to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and been released on bond. He has also submitted his resignation to the county and it has been accepted. According to the county manager the duties of planning director will be taken over by himself.

David Michael Sheriff, 52, Newborn—hold for United States Marshals.
William Joseph Carter, 19, Oxford—Jasper County Probate Court Bench warrant.
Gidgett Rebecca Simmons, 38, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
Jeremy Lee Simmons, 31, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 138 calls for service including 20 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 15 accident, 12 subject needs officer, five each assist motorist, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, trespassing, and VGCSA, four each alarm, domestic, theft by taking and vandalism of property, three each livestock on road, mechanical break down and threatening/harassing calls, two each prowler report, pickup prisoner, utility department needed, welfare check, discharge firearms, request DNR, stalking and 911 hang up, one each burglary, speeding auto, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, escort or convoy, miscellaneous EMS, child abuse/molestation, property found, checking location, argument and attempt to serve warrant.
Also during this period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
Marvin Collier Stinson, 43, Shady Dale—theft by taking.
Marvis Armel Wyman, 29, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
David Christopher Hardwick, 44, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while license suspended or revoked, giving false name or address to law enforcement officer, headlight violation and open container.
Jorge Lucas Bautista, 30, Monticello—obstruction or hindering a law enforcement officer, battery, disorderly conduct, cruelty to children (3rd degree) and probation violation.
William Charles Jackson, Jr., 26, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked.
In addition, during this period officers with the MPD responded to 45 calls for service including nine stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six trouble unknown, four subject needs officer, three each alarm, domestic and escort or convoy, two each burglary and livestock on road, one each vehicle accident, chase in progress, theft by taking, miscellaneous EMS, welfare check, private property, music/noise complaint, shoplifter, vandalism of property, road hazard and persons refuse to leave.

Clinton Michael Dunn, 26, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, open container and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
Dexter Lysander Daniels, 35, Jackson—speeding and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.
