Piedmont Boys Basketball Are Undefeated

The Piedmont Academy boys basketball team continued its perfect start to the 2010-2011 season Monday with a 39-30 road win against John Hancock in Sparta.

Bobby Mitchell paced the team with 12 points while Davis Kimball added nine. Peter Lawson contributed eight points as the Cougars improved to 5-0.

“Once again the team played hard and did a great job on defense,” said coach Josh Daher. “The offense finally started coming together in the second half. We still have a long way to go but the team is starting to get an idea of what we are trying to do on offense. The next few days are key before we open up region play on Friday.”

Piedmont trailed 16-15 at halftime but outscored John Hancock 10-3 in the third quarter. Jakey Dunagan contributed seven points in the win. Justin Wilson added two points with Dylan Collins adding a free throw.

Prior to Monday’s victory, the Cougars held on for a 33-30 road win against Westminster Christian in Watkinsville. Dunagan was the leading scorer with 11 points while Mitchell and Collins both added six.

“We played hard on defense but didn’t execute on offense,” Daher said. “It was the first time running the man-to-man offense so I understand why it looked so sloppy. We found a way to win at the end. I am still excited about seeing us struggle and finding a way to win.”

Lawson finished with four points while Tyler Cullum, Alex Hall and Wilson each scored two.
Piedmont trailed 18-15 after the third quarter but outscored its opponent 17-12 in the game’s final eight minutes.
The Cougars will host Covenant Friday at 7:30 p.m. and John Milledge Saturday at 4 p.m.
