Home Saved

Firefighters were called to a house fire on Hwy. 16 west Sunday morning, and were able to save the structure. Fire fighters were paged out at 10:28 a.m., and arrived on scene at 10:34 a.m.

Unfortunately there was much damage to the single-wide mobile home, likely making it unlivable. The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical, starting in one of the bedrooms.

Firefighters from Station 3, Monticello; Station 1, Jackson Lake; Station 2, Shady Dale, and Station 5, Piedmont Community, responded. Jasper County fire fighters have also responded to numerous brush fires in the past couple weeks.

Jasper County Fire Chief Jarrett Slocumb urges people to use extreme caution when doing outdoor burning, and to always obtain a burn permit. Burn permits may be obtained by calling 1-877-OK2BURN.

Upon receiving a burn permit, persons should call the local 911 center at 706-468-4930 and give them the burn permit number and location of the burn to prevent fire fighters being dispatched unnecessarily.
