Barbara Padgett Davis
Barbara Padgett Davis, 80, of Monticello, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at her residence.
Mrs. Davis was born in Millen to the late Hubert Lee Padgett and Virginia Gibson Padgett in 1930. She grew up and went to school in Savannah. She married Charles Henry Davis on May 5, 1951 in the Padgett’s home. They had four children and she began her work career as a school teacher for Savannah Christian School. Later she and Charles owned and operated the Davis Moving and Storage Company.
The family moved to Charleston, S.C. in 1969 where she worked for Bud Berma Imports with her husband. In 1974 they moved to Chicago, Ill. to work with Moody Bible Institute and in 1988 the family came back south to Turtle Cove in Monticello, where she worked for C.R. Bard 15 years before retiring. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church for 22 years. In her lifetime, Mrs. Davis loved to read and cook.
