A Reason to “Act
I really do want to believe employment is a top priority for the administration and the new power in the Congress.
At this point though, I am disheartened to hear again and again the same partisan rhetoric spewing all over the airways.
I know that each incoming administration is saddled with deals and promises made by the previous administration, and following through on a campaign promise becomes a game of chance, at best.
The question is just where does the unsuspecting American citizen hang his/her hopes in finding employment to care for their families? We have to get back to making things, things that create jobs. I can’t see how doing budget cuts on the Department of Education will further our country’s goal to getting back to making things.
Don’t you need education to address the high tech future we face? We must learn how to harness new energy on a global scale and doing research and development requires being educated in how to do that.
Other areas targeted for cuts include our infrastructure, an area of the government that employs hundreds of thousands of workers.
All of this merely adds people to the unemployment rolls when millions of dollars of waste go unchanged in many of our federal budgets that really need targeting—we need a refocus by our legislators and lawmakers that is nonpartisan and aimed at the overall good of the people.
We must get back to making things, making things that move us into the 21st Century and beyond. Our populace is angry, confused and scared of our future and where we are headed in this world.
On the home front….To ’Cheers’ are you really making an argument based on ‘parsing’ words??? Ok, I’ll see your ‘don’t bring a knife to a gun fight’ (a common phrase) and I’ll raise you ‘second amendment remedies’ (a new partisan phrase) and I’ll throw in ‘if votes don’t work then a gun may have to’ (another new phrase).
Just for kicks I’ll add ‘lock and load’ while using an image of crosshair targets and ‘armed and dangerous’ (two new and very scary phrases).
I hear the claim all the time that none of these statements are meant to be as controversial as they are, but our words have consequences and we can’t keep explaining away a violent action fueled by belief that the phrases are an excuse to ‘act.’
